A Life Debt Repaid By Cheng Xiaocheng Chapter 68
It took Cordy considerable effort to help John back to his bed.
He was staying in a VVIP ward, though it was more apt to call it a suite. Nurses and rehab staff were all
out waiting for orders at the living area, while Cordy was alone with John in the bedroom. Randy-his
assistant-was nowhere to be seen.
And things suddenly got awkward as they were alone together.
“Would you like some fruit?” Cordy asked, just to say something. “Yeah.”
She glanced at the fruits in the room and asked, “Apple?”
Cordy picked up an apple, washed it, and started to peel it.
She was no fan of fruits and basically kept none at home. Moreover, she had been busy during her
time abroad, at Jessop Corp, and now at Starstream Group. She never had time to peel fruits for
herself, and the apple certainly left a mess.
She awkwardly looked up at John and saw the obvious smile in his eyes as he asked, “Are you done?”
“If you don’t mind,” she said, and gave it to him.
John stared at it before commenting. “It has personality.”
Cordy had no idea if it was a praise or an insult.
“Are you going to eat it?”
“Feed me, please.”
“Can’t you do it yourself?”
“I’m too weak.”
But he had just managed to walk to the washroom!
Still, Cordy held a slice of apple beside his lips.
As he took a bite, his lips brushed gently against her fingers.
Her fingers twitched as he felt that warm, moist sensation.
As she stared at him as he chewed, he asked, “It’s sweet. Want to try it?”
“No, I hate fruits.” Cordy refused a little quickly.
John chuckled, but he continued to chew on the apple.
When he eventually finished it, Cordy quickly rushed to the washroom to wash her hands.
John changed the subject when she returned, not wanting things to be too awkward between them.
“Do you have gastric problems? I heard from my uncle that you suffered from gastrointestinal bleeding
“I drank too much at the time,” Cordy said nonchalantly.
“So it only happened once?” John pressed.
“…No,” Cordy admitted. “Women get the short end of the stick when it comes to social drinking,
and I drink as much as possible so I won’t get taken advantage of.”
John’s Adam’s apple bobbed just then. “Kyle Jessop wasn’t worth it.”
“No, he wasn’t.” Cordy nodded.
Back then, she really did everything to bring in investors for Jessop Corp-stopping short of sleeping
And she did all that only to be told that she was too strong and too independent, and that being with her
made him feel pressured.
Now that she thought about the words Kyle told her when they broke up, it was certainly ironic.
“Everything I do from now on will be for my own sake,” Cordy said with determination, as if reminding
John was about to speak when Randy knocked on the door politely. “Mr. Levine?”
John pursed his lips and turned toward Randy, who appeared utterly respectful and fearful that he had
upset John. “Your dinner’s here.”
The last time John dumped him in the middle of the road, he had to walk three hours before finally
It was traumatizing even as he thought about it now.
He only brought the lunchboxes in when he saw the nod from John, putting it on the overtable before
he started to leave.
That was when Cordy suddenly called out, “Mr. Martin?”
“Yes, Ms. Sachs?” Randy asked humbly.
“Your boss is feeling weak. Please feed him.”
Randy was gaping.
But John ate a meal on his own after he woke up, did he not?!
Randy could not help turning to John, and seeing the look in his eyes, he promptly said, “Okay.”
Naturally, the air in the room turned weird soon enough.
While Cordy ate her lunch box nonchalantly, Randy fed John even as the other man glared at him…..
